Contemporary signage design for the Albany Entertainment Centre, designed to enhance patrons experience and harmonise with the waterfront location.

EXPERTISE
Wayfinding Signage

The purpose built performing arts venue opened in 2010. The Albany Entertainment Centre is one of Western Australia’s most distinctive regional cultural venues, positioned on the edge of Princess Royal Harbour. This contemporary architectural landmark stands as a bold civic destination for performance, culture and community, connecting Albany’s waterfront with the energy of live entertainment.

Clear contemporary way-finding and information signage was required to assist patrons in navigating the centre’s multi-level public spaces, while also enhancing their overall experience and connection to the building.

Carefully considering the strong architectural language of the centre, we developed a signage system that worked in harmony with the angular forms, open foyers and waterfront setting. The design needed to be clear and practical, while remaining unobtrusive within a visually dynamic environment.

The signage incorporated a restrained monochromatic palette, clean typography and architectural line work inspired by the geometry of the building. From directional signs and level markers through to room identification, each element was designed to feel integrated, rather than applied.

As part of our planning, patron movement, sightlines, lighting variations, open public areas and access requirements were important considerations. We ensured the signage was positioned to guide visitors intuitively through the venue, supporting a seamless experience while preserving the building’s contemporary character and visual impact.
