Nectar Honey is passionate about producing pure, single origin honey, specifically harvested from the flowers of Jarrah, Marri and Yarri trees in the heart of Western Australia’s remote forests. This small family-owned brand is committed to sustainable beekeeping, ensuring the health of bee populations, while preserving their natural environment. By avoiding the use of synthetic pesticides and antibiotics and using minimal processing methods, Nectar Honey produces completely raw honey that is rich, robust and flavourful. Their honey also boasts exceptional health benefits, evidenced by its high Total Activity (TA) Rating, which measures antimicrobial and antibacterial strength.
With a desire to expand into international markets, Nectar Honey needed an innovative design solution to showcase their brand and tell their unique story through their packaging.
Developing their logo, the core of their brand identity, their initials ‘N’ and ‘H’ were ingeniously merged. This subtle yet impactful union is accentuated by the negative space within the cross bar of the ‘H’, symbolising the intricate pathways of honeycombs and the collaborative efforts of bees diligently working together.
An unconventional packaging solution was designed to serve both a functional purpose and elevate the brand’s premium qualities. Featuring a bespoke textural paper base box with vertical scores along the edges, which intuitively hug the jar’s rounded shoulders, a top label was created to extend onto the box, serving as a tamper evident seal. While the neck of the label features a ‘DNA’ trio graphic, incorporating icons of native tree flowers and an Australian map, creating a distinct honeycomb DNA tower.
Enhancing the product’s aesthetic appeal, a die cut-window on the front and back of the box unit showcases the Nectar Honey icon, revealing the honey’s beautiful colour. The deliberately minimal design adopts a clean black and white colour palette, emphasising the honey’s health properties, with the TA rating boldly featured on the front. The side panels of the box base unit narrate the brand story, encapsulating the essence of the honey’s DNA, while the subtle beehive references and buzzing bees are integrated into the design offering an interactive element.
This design evolution has enabled Nectar Honey to enter new markets with a compelling brand identity that remains true to their core values, emphasising their sustainable practices, high-quality honey and its associated health benefits. This creative concept effectively tells the Nectar Honey story, while ensuring their product stands out on an international stage.
