Esther Lee graphic designer

At school Esther dreamed of being an avant garde artist, but fear of dying as a penniless painter drove her into graphic design. She graduated with distinction from Curtin and has found her niche at Dessein. She loves the easy going atmosphere and creative freedom. Every day serves up something new and she gets paid for doing what she loves best. Her greatest sense of accomplishment comes from seeing her designs as a finished product and providing a service that makes the world a trendier and more hip place to live in.

Esther draws inspiration from an eclectic range of art and design influences. These swing from sensationalist, New York-based contemporary design icon, Stefan Sagmeister and pop-artist Andy Warhol to the symbolic sensuality of Gustav Klimt and disturbing beauty of Frieda Kahlo.

Eclecticism and eccentricity extend beyond the design studio. Her favourite actor is the quirky John Malkovich and she loves Charlie Kaufman’s warped and crazy film Being John Malkovich. Ear candy includes the beautiful and haunting songs of Icelandic band Sigur Ros and UK band The Cure.

Her favourite colour sits in the green range somewhere between pale pistachio and avocado. Esther is a veracious collector of recipes and gourmet magazines but admits to a pathological fear of cooking.
